The study of effectiveness of spiritual intelligence training on psychological well-being, marital satisfaction and pregnancy anxiety of pregnant women in Shiraz

Background and aims: Pregnancy is a new and unique situation in which the pregnant women experience many physiological and psychological changes. The aim of the current research was to investigate on the effectiveness of spiritual intelligence training on psychological well-being, marital satisfaction and pregnancy anxiety in Shiraz.

Methods: This was a semi-experimental study conducted in a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all of primigravida women in Shiraz who attended the Antenatal Care Centers of Shiraz from August to October 2013. 42 persons
(20 persons in experimental group and 22 persons in control group) were selected by convenience sampling. Before beginning the spiritual intelligence training program, Ryff’s Psychological Well-being Scales, Golombok-Rust Marital Satisfaction and Wendenburg Pregnancy Anxiety Questionnaires were distributed between them. Then, experimental group received 10 sessions of 90 minutes about spiritual intelligence training based on Tiri, Noklain and Ubani’s models, but the control group received no intervention. After conducting post-test on both groups, data were subjected to multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) design using software SPSS.

Results: The results showed that receiving spiritual intelligence training causes a significant difference in decreasing pregnancy anxiety and increasing psychological well-being  and marital satisfaction between the experimental and control group (P=0.001).

Conclusion: Spiritual intelligence is one of the most important components that can reduce negative emotions such as pregnancy anxiety and increase psychological well-being and marital satisfaction.
